Vrede en Lust
The history of Vrede en Lust is a story of passion, vision and resurrection that dates back to 1688, when the Flemish merchant
Jacques de Savoye arrived in Cape Town with the French Huguenots. De Savoye immediately began improving 60 morgen (55 ha)
of land near Cape Town at Franschoek, and by 1691 more than 10,000 vines had been planted, growing to 80,000 by 1780.
Since the reign of De Savoy, the Vrede en Lust estate has changed hands and in 1996, when the Buys family became the 17th owners,
they embarked on a restoration program to fully exploit the exceptional viticultural potential of this land.
Today, this stunningly modern wine farm is popular not only for wine tastings and delicious food, but has also become
a popular location for various events, especially weddings. This family owned wine business pays homage to its noble roots
and continues to build on over 320 years of history and heritage.
Jacques De Savoye named the farm Vrede en Lust in 1688, derived from the Dutch meaning "Peace and Joy".

That's why I'm happy to be in a position to grow something every day,
what I can share with people, what brings people together and brings them joy. I really love what I do.”
